READ: PH detects first Lambda caseThe Philippines has detected its first Covid-19 Lambda variant case, the Department of Health (DoH) said on Sunday. First identified in Peru, Lambda is classified as a variant of interest (VOI) by the World Health Organization. Some researchers had warned that this variant is more dangerous than the Delta variant because it could be vaccine resistant. Researchers believe that the surge in cases in Chile was driven by the Lambda variant, which is highly transmissible like the Delta variant. The Lambda variant has been found in 26 countries.
